Ludonin
and Carbamazepine a treatment for idiopathie trigeminal neuralgia
A comparative study
Idiopathie trigeminal neuralgia is the name given to brief paroxgsms
of scaring facial pain.It occurs in the edlerly without any accompanying
physical signs. The diagnosis criteria in the paper as follows:
1.Paroxgsmal attacks of facial or frontal pain which last a few
second to lest than two minutes.2.Pain has at least four of the
charrateristies (eg.dis- tribution along one or more divisions of
the trigemina nerve, sudden, pain intersity severe, precipitation
form trigger areas and between Paroxysms the patient in entirely
asgmptoms).3.No neurological deficit.4.Attacks are stereotyped in
the individual patient .5.exclusion of other carrses of facial pain.
The thrapic effects of traditional Chinese drug C Ludonin, contain:Bai
jiang can,Chuan xiong,Dang gui etc and Carbama- zepine were analgsed.983
patients with idiopathie trigeminal neutogia are summarized.Patients'
are from 26-83 years old >=40 years old in 903 cages(91.8%).The
courses of the illness were from 2 months to 4.5 years,>=1 years
in 892 cases (90.7%).Their pain distribution as follows (table 1)

The ludonin thrapy was used in 500 cases(50.8%).Carbamazepine thrapy
was used in 483 cases(49.1%).Similar sex,year-old and courses of
illness in two groups were recorded.Ludonin 50ml,bid,P.O,Carbamazepine
100mg,bid to tid,P.O.These patients were given medicine to continue
for one month.The result of treatment as follows(table 2)

The results of thrapic effects were discussed.Total effective ratio
of the Ludonin was in 91.8%.The result that the effect of Ludonin
were more higher than traditional Western medicine(Carbamazepine).The
effective machinesm of traditional chinese drug are possibly:1.Promote
the Circulation of .Qi and blood.Exped Wind and get rid of pain.2.Nourish
blood and subdne hyperactirity of liver,remove stasis and prenote
netidian.Therefore,the improvement of microcirculations of the trigeminal
nerve were obtained.
